What Is Relational Trauma?
A comprehensive clinical resource on the invisible wounds that shape high-achieving women — and how to heal them.
The Clinical Perspective
Relational trauma is not what happened to you in a single catastrophic event. It is the cumulative wound of what happened — or failed to happen — in your earliest relationships. It is the parent who was emotionally unavailable, the household where love was conditional on performance, the childhood where you learned that your needs were inconvenient.
In my 15,000+ hours of clinical work, I have found that relational trauma is the hidden foundation beneath many of the struggles that bring high-achieving women to therapy: the perfectionism that never feels like enough, the relationships that feel unsafe, the success that feels hollow, the body that cannot rest even when the mind says it is safe to.
The resources below represent my complete clinical writing on relational trauma — what it is, how it shows up, and how it heals.
